In 1996 the Town of Sheboygan Falls Fire Department added a 1st Responder EMS group to there Fire Department, this was to increase the level of care that they felt the residents of the Town of Sheboygan Falls needed.
The overall objective of the First Responders is to improve the quality of emergency medical care rendered to victims of trauma and illness. Our First Responders will dramatically decrease response time before dispatched ambulance services can be on the scene.
First Responder Responsibilities
Administer basic emergency medical care at the scene.
Summon additional help from other emergency agencies if deemed necessary - such as Fire Department units, power companies, ect..
Move victim only if there is a life threatening situation.
Scene safety or crowd control.
Compile information from victims, relatives, or bystanders, to forward to responding ambulance services for more rapid and smoother transfer of medical information.
Assist above mentioned personnel in whatever capacity needed.
First Responders will assist the Safety Officer from the Town of Sheboygan Falls Fire Department with checking of blood pressure, respirations, core temperatures and the in take of fluids of firefighters at large fires.
Training
A First Responder must complete a certified course approved by the Sheboygan County Emergency Medical Services Council and approved under the guidelines of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. All First Responders must complete this course.
C.P.R. certification every (2) years.
Pass a First Responder Refresher Course every (2) years.
Show competency of AED once a year with medical director or an individual appointed by the medical director.
To remain a member of the Town of Sheboygan Falls First Responders group, you must remain on the monthly schedule and attend 10 of 12 monthly meetings/drills annually to review and update First Responder Skills.
Meetings/training will be the third Monday of the month beginning at 6:30pm.
Volunteer Services
All Town of Sheboygan Falls First Responders are volunteer members and will not receive compensation for their services rendered. Cost of annual training supplies, schooling, materials, etc. will be paid by the Town of Sheboygan Falls Fire Department.
Guidelines
The Town of Sheboygan Falls Fire Department's First Responders will follow the guidelines and standards of the Sheboygan County Emergency Medical Council and of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. |
